Welcome to Herts Air Ambulance
Herts Air Ambulance, unlike NHS emergency services, is a Charity providing a free life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for the critically ill and injured of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
Hertfordshire was one of the few counties left in the UK without its own Air Ambulance and so in April 2007, the Charity launched an appeal to enable the people of Hertfordshire to raise funds for their own life-saving Air Ambulance service. A fundraising target of £250,000 was set...the challenge was enormous and was only going to be possible with the help and support of the Hertfordshire community. And on the 5th of November 2008 the Herts Air Ambulance was unveiled at Fairlands Valley Park, Stevenage.
Tasked on average 2-3 times a day, the Herts Air Ambulance is most commonly called out to patients with serious illness or injury caused by such incidents as road traffic accidents, falls from height, heart attacks, stabbings, cardiac arrests and strokes.
The helicopters carry advanced life-support medical equipment and drugs. The HEMS Teams consist of very experienced Pilots, Critical Care Paramedics and Doctors. Crucial pre-hospital critical care is brought to a patient at the scene allowing life-saving procedures to begin at the earliest opportunity.
How can you help?
With no direct funding from the Government or National Lottery we rely only upon the people and businesses of Essex and Hertfordshire to remain operational and keep saving lives. The Air Ambulances aren’t just helicopters; we believe that as the only dedicated Air Ambulance service in Essex and Hertfordshire it is essential that the service brings additional medical care and skills to the scene.
It costs in the region of £5.8 million annually to cover all charitable expenses and aircraft operations. We hope you or your loved ones never need us but thanks to the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex and Herts the service remains operational.
