Simon's Story

On the 17th September 2010, after almost 20 years of safely riding motorbikes, both in the UK and right the way around Europe, a driver pulled out immediately in front of me resulting in me being knocked off at around 40mph.

The impact left me unconscious and I had stopped breathing. It also left me with a head injury and the temporary loss of sight in one eye. It broke my back in three places, shattered six ribs, cracked a bone in my foot, ruptured my aorta, liver and spleen and resulted in my having extensive surgery to remove or repair the damaged organs. In the process, eight litres of blood was used to keep me alive.

The guys from the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust saved my life; if it was not for their fast response and intervention, it is certain that my two young sons would now be fatherless and my wife a widow.

As someone who has regretfully experienced firsthand the spectacular professionalism of the Air Ambulance team, I would like to encourage everyone to make even just a small donation to this wonderful Charity, run solely from the kindness and sensibility of those who see the value in having such an outstanding safety net. These people survive on no money whatsoever from the Government; it’s all from people like you and I who can see that these people really do make a massive difference to people’s lives. If you have a spare £10 per month, you could not spend it much better than donating it to this team of people, they are true heroes.
